WWPR and Doorways for Women and Families is pleased to announce the Doorways' Annual Crate&Barrel Holiday Shopping Event. Join the holiday shopping fun at an exclusive event at the Crate and Barrel Clarendon Market Common Store to benefit Doorways for Women and Families.
Doorways for Women and Families (Doorways) is
WWPR’s new pro-bono client for 2006-09! Doorways is a resource
for abused, homeless or at-risk women and their families. It provides
self-sufficiency and prevention services, and educates the larger
community about domestic violence and homelessness.
The pro-bono committee will be working with Doorways
for the next three years on their media and communications needs. If you have any questions about the Doorways work, or if you're interested in working on the pro-bono committee, please contact Rachel Henderson or Nicole Arens.
For over nearly 30 years, Doorways has served as the
only shelter for abused, homeless and at-risk women and their families
in the Arlington area.
Doorways is the recent recipient of the Kresge Foundation Capital Challenge Grant. Doorways has completed the Challenge as of July 1, 2008. The Kresge Foundation will award Doorways a one-time $400,000 grant shortly to be used toward the construction funding for the Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home, which was completed in November 2007. Doorways has been awarded the highest rating from Charity Navigator, America’s leading charity evaluator. The 4-star rating from Charity Navigator designates Doorways as outperforming most charities who advocate for victims of domestic violence and homelessness. The ratings are on a scale from zero to 4 stars with 4 stars being the highest. The exceptional designation demonstrates publicly that Doorways is a trusted, valuable consideration for charitable investments. Check out Doorways’ profile at www.charitynavigator.org.
Doorways is the 2006 recipient of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Best Business Award (ABBIE) in the nonprofit category. Doorways was selected as a featured charity in the 2005 issue of The Catalogue of Philanthropy, and is the winner of the 2006 Arlington County’s Community Hero Award for Volunteers. Doorways is also the 2006 recipient of the James B. Hunter Community Hero Award and the 2005 James B. Hunter Human Rights Award.
Each year, Doorways provides emergency services
to more than 6,000 women and children through their emergency family
shelter, safehouse and 24-hour crisis hotline. Doorways also offers
extensive services to families on the road to self-sufficiency through
their transitional housing program, children’s services, thrift
store and financial education services.
