About the Woman of the Year Award:
Register to Attend
This year, WWPR is pleased to announce the keynote speaker of Woman of the Year, Kathleen Matthews, Marriott International's Executive Vice President Global Communications and Public Affairs.
Washington Women in Public Relation’s “Washington PR Woman of the Year” award program and luncheon are a highlight of the DC Metro area’s public relations events calendar. It begins with a nomination process, and the judging committee then whittles down all the stellar women nominated to three finalists. The winner and the two runners-up are then feted at a luncheon hosted at an upscale restaurant in the District, where an audience of several hundred DC-area communications professionals gathers to network, hear from a keynote speaker, and honor the winner. In addition, WWPR holds a raffle at the event, partial proceeds from which are donated to our pro bono client, Doorways for Women and Families, the first shelter for homeless women and families and domestic violence victims in Arlington, Va.
The 2007 “Washington PR Woman of the Year” was awarded to Jennifer Wayman, Senior Vice President/Co-Group Director, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. In a hotly-contested race, runners up were Karen Doyne, Managing Director, Crisis & Issues Management, Burson-Marsteller, and Juliette Rizzo, National Director, Exhibits and Events Planning, U.S. Department of Education. The assembled audience also heard from keynote speaker Helen Thomas, the legendary newswoman and syndicated columnist for Hearst Newspapers.
WWPR encourages its members to lend their many talents to organizing this signature event. Tasks range from publicity to event organization, and nomination and judging to securing raffle prizes and sponsorships. If you are interested in helping with the 2008 event, please contact WOY co-chairs Yanira Eason and Mary Fletcher Jones.
