Marketing & Communications Specialist

Under the supervision of the Manager of Communications, the Marketing & Communications Specialist will provide vital support and assistance by increasing capacity to strengthen company culture and the communications infrastructure.  The Marketing & Communications Specialist is responsible for day-to-day activities in ensuring communications and marketing requests are completed in a timely manner, increasing Unity’s social media presence and engagement with followers and assisting with overall functions and responsibilities for maintaining a transparent organizational environment through ensuring all communication channels are kept up-to-date with timely and relevant information. MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provides overall marketing and communications support to the team
  • Serves as initial point of contact for communication and marketing requests and tracks requests from development to completion
  • Creates growth strategies for social media accounts to increase Unity’s online community and engagement
  • Creates, posts and manages content for social media channels
  • Writes press releases and website newsroom articles
  • Assists the Communications Manager in ensuring adherence to intranet governance
  • Creates and edits video materials for internal and external purposes
  • Enforces and maintains internal adherence to branding
  • Ensures internal waiting room TVs are up-to-date with timely and relevant content
  • Proofs and edits internal and external content
  • Ensures website content is current and up to date
  • Tracks notes of meetings and follow-ups for timelines
  • Creates PowerPoint presentations for leadership
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position. One (1) year of successful communications experience.  Non-profit experience is preferred. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Experience in a communications team, especially internal communication for a dispersed workforce
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships among staff
  • Demonstrated interviewing, copy-writing and editing skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated presentation, public speaking, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills with internal and external partners
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite preferred)
  • Must be able to work under pressure of deadlines and communications goals
  • Must be able to travel and availability to perform job-related duties during weekend and evening hours
  • Project management experience a plus
