Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) is a national #RailSafetyEducation nonprofit dedicated to stopping track tragedies through public awareness and education. OLI is led by a small, but mighty team of full-time staff and consultants and is in need of a seasoned Communications Consultant to support our digital communications work. Position Overview
As a Communications Consultant, you will support OLI’s digital communications activities through social media management, analytics reporting, media monitoring and communications quality control. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented communications professional who is skilled at tracking performance metrics, monitoring media coverage, maintaining message consistency and ensuring all materials reflect the organization’s voice and brand standards. The Communications Consultant will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing digital, social media and earned media performance, producing regular reports and providing insights to support communications strategy and decision-making. You will work primarily with the Director of Communications and Marketing as well as the Executive Director.
Seeking a candidate with:
• Strong written communications skills, with the ability to create and review compelling and effective communications materials, including social media content, website pages, presentations and press releases.
• Excellent copyediting skills and the ability to learn and consistently apply organizational messaging, brand standards and terminology across social media, website, presentation and media materials.
• Familiarity with media relations practices and platforms, including monitoring news coverage and assisting in media outreach efforts.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills to track and report campaign effectiveness and social media metrics.
Responsibilities
Working with the Director of Communications and Marketing, assist in the execution of communications and marketing strategies to include but not limited to:
• Draft, copyedit, test and/or schedule social media posts and support execution of monthly content calendar production with consulting firm • Review, copyedit and quality-check social media content, website updates, presentations and other materials to ensure consistency with organizational messaging, terminology and brand standards
• Positively engage with followers on social media platforms, forward communications that need additional staff input and informally report on social chatter as needed
• Track and report social media metrics, campaign and website data and analyze effectiveness of communication and digital ad campaigns
• Monitor daily media coverage using Meltwater and other platforms, identify relevant coverage, flag issues requiring leadership attention and track media mentions and trends.
• Assist in producing department and campaign reports, providing campaign statistics and other metrics as needed
• Assist in managing organizational assets including but not limited to PSAs, education awareness products, videos, brochures, posters, b-roll and more — ensuring optimal utilization and tracking using multiple file management tools.
• Update annual communications calendar
• Additional projects as the need arises
• Create presentations for ED, VP and staff as needed
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of progressive experience in digital communications and media relations. Demonstrated experience utilizing social media management, analytics and media monitoring platforms to track performance and produce actionable reports. Experience translating data and metrics into concise reports and recommendations for internal stakeholders. Successful candidates will have a strong attention to detail and ability to quickly learn technical terminology and maintain consistency across communications materials. Experience working with the media outlets and/or in nonprofit or association environments is preferred.
