About this Fellowship Opportunity This fellowship honors the late Ms. Simon Chaitowitz, a writer, public relations professional, and longtime leader of the Physicians Committee’s communications team. The Simon Chaitowitz Communications Fellow will help the communications team promote campaigns, scientific studies, books, conferences, and videos in digital and social media and is a great opportunity to gain valuable communications, social media, and media relations skills. The fellow will be mentored by the Physicians Committee’s Social Media and Communications Coordinator. Learning opportunities may include: · Collaborating with the social media team to create and execute new campaigns · Generating, editing, publishing, and sharing engaging content (e.g., original text, photos, videos, and news) · Performing research on current trends and social audience content preferences · Communicating with followers · Suggesting new features and tools that develop brand awareness, like promotions and competitions · Working with our graphic designers to create animations and graphics · Recording and editing new video content under the guidance of our video team This fellowship will be remote with opportunities to support events in Washington, D.C., for a fellow based in the area. The fellow will receive an orientation at the start of their fellowship and ongoing support from their staff mentor. The Physicians Committee will assist the fellow in obtaining course credit if applicable. Who We Are Looking For: If you are a student or recent graduate and a team player with enthusiasm for the Physicians Committee’s mission; an educational or employment background in social media, video production, journalism, communications, or public relations; familiarity with all social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter; and strong writing, organizational, and time management skills; we’d like to hear from you. Experience with Adobe Suite and bilingual language skills in Spanish or French are preferred. Terms: The Physicians Committee can only accept applications from people who will be living in and working from the following jurisdictions for the duration of the fellowship: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, and Virginia. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The ideal candidate will be able to work at least 20 hours a week and commit at least three months to the fellowship. Start and end dates are flexible. The ideal start date will be around Feb. 1, 2023. The fellowship compensation is $16.10 per hour.
